According to the European Commission's monthly survey of economic sentiment in the euro zone published Friday, the headline measure of consumer confidence fell to -5 in September from -4 in August, a weaker than expected outcome.
The headline measure of industrial confidence fell to +3 from +5, once again a weaker outcome than the decline to +4 that economists had forecast. Confidence in the services and retail sectors also declined, although confidence in the construction sector strengthened.
As a result, the overall Economic Sentiment Index fell to 107.1 from 109.9, a larger decline than the drop to 109.0 that was forecast by economists.
